Recently, Xolo launched its new tablet – “Xolo Play. This is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor which clocks 1.2-1.3 GHz on a single core. Tegra 3 is the successor of Tegra 2 and predecessor of the world’s fastest mobile processor i.e. Tegra 4. The tablet was launched at $210 (Rs.13,000). This is Xolo’s second tablet, the first one was powered by a SnapDragon(quad-core) processor.
We have seen that there has been a significant increase in demand of mid-range priced smartphones and tablets in India and other parts of South east Asia. Companies such as Xolo and Micromax (in India) are aiming to lure the customers by bringing out newer, cheaper smartphones and tablets in the market with unmatched specifications. Let me remind you that Xolo was the first brand to come up with an Intel-processor powered smartphone providing the smartphone with greater computing power.
Apart from having an ultra-fast processor (Tegra 3), the tablet is loaded with many other interesting specifications and hardware. Xolo Play has 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of built in memory and comes with a 32 GB expandable external storage slot. The Play tab has a 7 inch IPS-LCD dislpay with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. While the Tegra 3 mobile processor has four cores for performance and one battery saving core. To assist high-end gaming, the tablet is equipped with a 12-core NVIDIA ULP GeForce graphics processing unit in the tablet. On the whole it is one of the best entertainment packages in the market at present. It has a front camera of 2 megapixels and lacks a rear camera. On the wireless connection corner the tab has WiFi connectivity and Bluetooth 4.0, but Xolo Play lacks sim slot and consequently is not available for cellular networks. We expect that in the upcoming versions of the Tab, Xolo will embed this facility also. The tablet has a 4000 mAh battery and a power backup of 8 hours.
On the competitive edge stands Google’s Nexus 7 built by Asus which also comes up with the same specifications except for the fact that it lacks a GPU and has extra 8 GB of built in memory when compared to Xolo Play. If you are not that into gaming and need a tablet for basic uage (reading, checking mails, etc;) then grab a Nexus 7 (Without SIM slot) which costs about $175 (Rs.10000). Otherwise, if you want to exploit a tablet fully (include gaming) then without any hesitation opt for Xolo Play to fill your world with entertainment.
